:: Of guilt, books, and breakfast
August 07, 2007

One of the guilty pleasures that makes a vacation feel like a vacation is the thought of all those other people who have to work. J & I extended a three-day weekend by tacking an extra day onto the end; today is that day. Breakfast at the Bacon Mansion Bed and Breakfast in Seattle is served between 8:30 and 9:30 am; which leaves a few minutes for a quick check of Email while J showers: a homeopathic dose of spam etc. to remind me of all the hustle and bustle going on, the minor crises that someone else will have to deal with.

After breakfast, I think a visit to Elliot Bay Books will be in order; Wessel and Lieberman and Arundel Books are also in the vicinity; and then a good café somewhere to review my findings.

On my list: some Belloc essays if I can find them, and Joseph Mitchell’s Up in the Old Hotel; maybe some Thurber if in reasonable condition. And one must allow for a few unanticipated volumes too…
