:: A bit of Brick on the wall
June 20, 2005

If you’ve got some room on your wall for a framed literary artifact and are in a bidding mood, check out eBay where Brick has a number of fundraising auctions going on at this very moment. Items being auctioned include “fifteen original handwritten manuscript pages created expressly for Brick’s seventy-fifth issue”, including this one (the current top-priced item at time of writing):

this original, handwritten manuscript page, created by Margaret Atwood for the magazine on February 20, 2005. It is the first two paragraphs of Oryx and Crake written in black ink on a white cardstock.

Note that these manuscript pages are recreations, rather than fragments remaining from the works in composition. The auction is taking place in stages with additional groups of items being made available every couple of days. Go to eBay and type in “brick, fundraiser” to see what items are currently on offer. This is your chance to own a piece of Atwood, Barnes, DeLillo, Proulx, Ondaatje, Munro, or one of many others.

The last day of the final auction is July 1, so don’t delay.
